The Lynching

José Clemente Orozco

Mexican, 1883 - 1949

Orozco's searing image of four mutilated corpses dangling in flames was requested for two exhibitions held in New York in 1935: An Art Commentary on Lynching, presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and The Struggle for Negro Rights, sponsored by the John Reed Club and the Artists' Union.
