The Pandit sisters were nieces of Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and daughters of his sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, herself a prominent political leader who held the Indian ambassadorship to the United Nations from 1946 to 1968. Today Tara Pandit (Nayantara Sehgal, born 1927) is a well-known novelist.
