This coffee table embodies George Nakashima’s belief that “some of the happiest table forms are accidental or realized through imagination.” The direction and thickness of the cut of wood dictated both the size and design of this piece, which Nakashima created with his signature free-form, natural edge that celebrates the innate state of the wood. This aesthetic, often defined as “organic-naturalism,” speaks to the artist’s desire to “offer the tree a second life of dignity and strength.”
