The Heritage I

Luc Tuymans

Belgian, born 1958

Fascinated by the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City, Tuymans created a group of paintings that address American symbols and history. This delicately painted image of a faceless man wearing a baseball cap and another wearing a hunting cap conveys an uncomfortably ambiguous mix of nostalgia and vulnerability.
