Alfred Stieglitz at Lake George

In this portrait by Paul Strand, whose early work was featured in a solo show at Stieglitz's 291 gallery and published in the last issue of Camera Work in 1917, Stieglitz is seen looking into his 4 x 5-inch Graflex camera. Stieglitz made contact prints-using the full negative at its original size-from many of his Graflex negatives, which makes it easy to find which pictures were taken with this handheld camera.
