Disintegration of the Bauhaus

Ed Rossbach

American, 1914 - 2002

Disintegration of the Bauhaus is Ed Rossbach’s tongue-in-cheek response to the rigid woven structure of the pictorial weavings of Bauhaus-trained Anni Albers. Both artists greatly admired ancient Andean textiles. Rossbach adopted the pre-Columbian off-loom technique of looping for this hanging. He taught design at the University of California, Berkeley, and has been described as the spiritual and technical leader of the new movement in American textile art in the 1960s.
