Woman's Suit: Jacket and Skirt
In addition to her casual sportswear, Claire McCardell produced streamlined suits and separates that were equally appropriate for business or casual wear. McCardell's designs became known for their unexpected touches. This example makes use of blue warp threads added to the selvedge of the bold, gold-and-black houndstooth check to add a dash of color. On the short jacket, the blue is applied as welt pockets and mitered to edge the collar, making a vertical line that continues into the straight skirt.
