King Janaka Greets King Dasharatha at His Son Rama's Wedding
Artist/maker unknownIn the foreground of this painting a royal wedding party keenly watches as the bride’s father welcomes the groom’s family to his kingdom. Two tents in the back — one closed and the other open over an ornamental rug — indicate that the visitors have set up camp outside the city. Because kings were mobile and often traveled in large groups, tents were an essential part of royal equipment.
