Join sports professional and author LJ Rader for a two-part exploration of the connections between art, sports, and the exhibition Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments.

Author Tour: LJ Rader on Art But Make It Sports and Rising Up | Meet in the Great Stair Hall | 12:30–1:00 p.m
Learn from lifetime sports professional LJ Rader about connections between the seemingly disparate worlds of art and sports in the exhibition Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments. LJ is the founder of the social media account ArtButMakeItSports and author of the related book Art But Make It Sports: Epic Matchups Where Art and Sports Collide (Chronicle Books, 2026).

He will be joined by Paul Farber and Joslyn Moore. Please note that headsets will be provided to hear the speakers.

Author Talk: LJ Rader on Art But Make It Sports | Meet in the Learning & Engagement Center | 2:00–3:00 p.m
Hear LJ Rader, founder of the social media account ArtButMakeItSports, discuss his related book Art But Make It Sports: Epic Matchups Where Art and Sports Collide (Chronicle Books, 2026), which pairs photographs of epic moments in modern sports with their historical fine art doppelgangers. LJ will explore how the exhibition Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments finds connections between the visual languages of art and sports, specifically boxing. He will be in conversation with the exhibition’s guest curator, Paul Farber.
